Lex Club in-coming President Peter Borock had a simple slogan for the large-scale effort the Club Executive Committee has embarked on this year, “Be Active.”
Long one of the most influential clubs in the city, this year will see a reinvestment and realignment of the East Side club towards creating a more social, civically active and engaged platform. This will include social events and happy hours for members and guests all along the 73rd Assembly District, co-sponsored events with like-minded civic and community groups as well as the hosting of events that delve deeply into issues that the community is concerned about.
“This is about more than politics,” Said Borock, “this is about the nature of what we as East Siders and New Yorkers need. Strong community and social bonds, engagement with key organizations and the telling of important stories.”
Along with bolstering the club’s events calendar and organizing the working groups to take up the new initiative, the Committee pressed to bring their communications and social media outreach into the fore. “Especially in an election year, there is a tremendous amount of distraction in the social media world,” said Jamie Ansorge, long-time Club Member and Executive Committee Member, “Engaging with the new East Siders who are younger and more social-media conscious is a key to long-term growth.”
