Elected Officials and Party Leaders

In addition to electing club officers and executive committees, members of New York Democratic clubs are extremely influential in nominating and electing unpaid party officials known as District Leaders and members of the New York State Democratic Committee, as well as Democratic legislators at the City, State and federal level. This page lists all current elected legislative and party officials who represent members of the Lexington Democratic Club. Democrats in each Assembly District elect one male and one female representative to the State Committee and one male and one female District Leader in each Part of the Assembly District. (In the 73rd A.D., there are 3 Parts, thus 6 District Leaders are elected).

The District Leaders and the State Committee representatives are the elected officials most involved with the Democratic clubs in their districts, and those with whom club members have the most contact at club meetings, forums, and other events. In the case of Congressional, State Senate, State Assembly, and City Council districts, the legislators often work closely with the clubs that overlap with their district lines, as club memberships represent a vital part of their constituencies. Elected officials in City- and statewide offices often maintain good relations with local Democratic clubs, owing to their shared political interests and camaraderie.

Although many New York Assembly Districts contain multiple Democratic clubs whose jurisdictions are divided into the various Parts of the Assembly District, the Lexington Democratic Club is the “official” Democratic Club for the entire 73rd Assembly District and accordingly, its members have substantial influence in the election of six District Leaders and two State Committee representatives.
